ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
* Perform routine custodial duties at assigned District school site.
* Sweep, scrub, mop, max and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, and other assigned areas.
* Spot clean and shampoo carpets.
* Clean classrooms, restrooms, shops, offices and related facilities as assigned.
* Spot mop spills and remove gum and debris.
* Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets and urinals
* Clean mirrors, tile, and windows.
* Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate authority.
* Report suspicious or unauthorized individuals on campus.
* Report infractions of rules to supervisor.
* Wash windows and walls; clean chalkboards, trays and erasers, move and arrange furniture, supplies and equipment in preparing classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings.
* Clean Venetian blinds, dust and polish furniture and woodwork and make minor, non-technical repairs as needed.
* Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate; maintain security of assigned areas.
* Order supplies according to established guidelines and procedures.
* Pick up and rack paper, trash debris around school grounds and in buildings; sweep and clean walkways and entrances.
* Dispose of trash according to established procedures and standards.
* Pack, unpack, load, receive, and store books, supplies, materials, and other items.
* Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor stripper, cleaning, buffer and polisher, carpet shampooer, scrubbers, high-pressure sprayer, manual and power sweepers, and power blower as assigned.
* Shovel, plow and sand walk and steps as directed.
* Respond to emergency clean ups such as spills.
* Maintain records of observed maintenance, repair needs, and safety issues.
* Participate in major summer cleaning projects as assigned.
* Perform related duties as assigned.

Basic methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial work

Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Proper lifting methods.
Walk, bend, lift, push and stand for extended periods of time.
Perform heavy physical labor (lift heavy objects, bend, twist, climb ladders, etc)
Learn appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
* Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance that complies with District policies and rules.
* Demonstrate effective and positive interpersonal relationships with staff, students, and the community and the ability to work as a productive and solid member of the school district team.
* Must be able to collaborate with peers, possess a positive attitude and be flexible with change.
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Other duties as assigned. This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
* Upper body strength to lift up to 40 pounds and carry more than 50 feet throughout the work day and lift 80 pounds at waist height.
* Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the day or sit throughout the day.
* Need to be adaptable to varying temperatures and climates encountered indoors and outdoors.
* Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissues.
* Exposure to cleaning chemicals and compounds.
* Handling and use of cleaning equipment (ladders, snow blowers, floor cleaner, etc.)
* Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
* Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
* Mental demands can include but are not limited to: Comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
